We are picked up by our driver guide at 8.00am and drive along the Mombasa Road for 100km before branching off to the Loitokitok for another 50km. At the Maasai market in Mbirikani we meet our guide and drive to the base of the Chyulu hills. Here we have a lunch break and thereafter hike for about 2 hours up the hills to our campsite while watching out for wildlife. Dinner and overnight stay will be in tents at the fly camp site.
After breakfast, we set off on an exclusive, 5hour guided-walk along the western slopes with an excellent view of Kilimanjaro and the Maasai plains below. The tall grass, the acacia trees and volcanic formations always at our sides, makes this walk an unforgettable experience. The walk leads to the southern edge of the Chyulu ranges for a lunch break. Our hike continues to camp two just above another Maasai Settlement by name of Oltiasika. Our crew has set the camp and prepared a delicious dinner which we enjoy as the sun sets over the western ridges of Kilimanjaro. Overnight will once again be in tents.
Today we descend to the hot Maasai plains. Our walk takes us past giraffes, zebras, gnus, gazelles and herds of Maasai cattle all heading for the same place-a seasonal lake in middle of the semi - arid land; Lake Arpakai. Besides watching numerous water birds here, we will have a chance to spot hippos while we enjoy our lunch. After lunch, we will drive to Loitokitok for dinner and overnight stay at the Kibo Slopes Cottages located on the northern foothill of Kilimanjaro.
Loitokitok market is the central trading place for the region. Here, Kenyan and Tanzanian folks exchange their ware and stories at the colorful market place. After a brief visit to the market place we explore the gorge of the Nalemoro River. This 8km walk on the banks of the riverbed leads to a scenic spot where water falls several meters during the rainy season forming a clear pool. Here we will have a superb picnic lunch before proceeding to the Tanzanian border for a magnificent view of Kilimanjaro on clear days. We can opt to stroll or drive back for the remaining 3km to the cottages for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast at 7.00am, we drive to Tsavo West. Before the gate we pass through the Shetani Lava flow and explore the area around the volcano which spilt millions of tons of molten rock a century ago, carpeting the entire area. With Rangers, we explore the Shetani caves and before we proceed to Kilaguni Lodge for lunch, a siesta and a game drive later in the afternoon takes us to Mzima Springs where we can watch Hippos and crocodiles. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Kilaguni Serena Lodge.
With just a cup of tea, we start our early morning game drive where we see elephants, buffalos, plenty of plains game and with some luck also some predators. After a late breakfast, we explore the Rhino Sanctuary and may be able to see a few Rhinos. After a lunch break we hike up the Ngulia Hills for a magnificent view over the park and beyond. Armed Rangers escort us to protect us from any wildlife we may come across. With game drives en-route we return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
After an early morning game drive and a late breakfast, we leave the park through the Mtito Andei gate and return to Nairobi with a lunch stop on the way.
