Itinerary Details

Day 1
We are picked up by our driver/guide from our hotel in Nairobi at 8.00am. We will have a short briefing and drive to Lake Nakuru National park for game drives. After a brief stop-over at a scenic viewpoint on the escarpment we arrive just in time for lunch at the Flamingo Hill tented camp. Lake Nakuru is a 62 sqm shallow alkaline lake. The Park is home to thousands of Flamingos that color the lake pink and provides sanctuary for the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, White and Black Rhino, Lion, and Leopard among other wildlife as well as a wide range of bird species. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Camp.

Day 2
Today we leave the Rift Valley floor and drive to the Maasai Mara. We arrive just in time for lunch at the Mara Ashnil Camp. After a short rest we embark on our first game drive in the vast game reserve, which was recently classified as the latest “Wonder of the World”. The Mara is an extension of the Serengeti in Tanzania. All the “Big Five” are found here. With some luck we may already see some of them today. At Sunset we return to our Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3
We can opt to spend the day on a full day game drive with packed lunch or have an early morning and evening game drive with lunch at the lodge. Whatever we choose, our driver will advise us the evening before to ensure the trip meets our expectations. The wealth of wildlife at the Maasai Mara is unrivalled in Africa, particularly during the migration of wildebeests from July to October. There are also herds of resident Elephant and Buffaloes and Plains Game, Hippos and Crocodiles in the Mara and Talek rivers. Predators such as Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs have plenty of food. There are also over 550 resident and migratory species of birds. Dinner and overnight stay will be at our Camp.

Day 4
After an early breakfast at 6.30 am, we leave the Mara through Ololo gate with packed lunch and drive via Homabay further on to Rusinga Peninsula where we check in in the afternoon. Rusinga is a place of infinite beauty to calm the mind and rejuvenate the body. Rusinga's grounds and exotic trees are a haven for a myriad of bird species–many of which are unique in this small corner of Kenya. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Rusinga Island Lodge.

Day 5
Today we have an early breakfast so as to catch the first ferry at 8.00am to Bondo on the mainland. The ferry transfer takes about an hour. After arrival on the mainland, we drive on to Busia border post. The packed lunch comes in handy while we wait for the customs clearance. Another 100km and we arrive in Jinja and check in at the Jinja Nile Resort for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6
Again we start our day early to visit the source of the Nile and drive to the scenic Bujagali Falls. Here, the Owen Falls dam with the biggest hydroelectric power station in Uganda produces up to (200 MW), has submerged most of the series of falls in the Nile known as Bujagali Falls. The scenic spot attracts visitors for kayaking and water rafting. By about 11.00 am we leave for Kampala for a late lunch and drive on for another 3hours to Lake Mburu National Park for dinner and overnight stay at the Arcadia Cottages.

Day 7
After breakfast, we explore the park an extensive area of wetland, rolling hills, grassy woodlands and valleys supporting a vast wealth of wildlife. The species include Zebra, Impala, Eland, Buffalo, Oribi, Defassa Waterbuck, Leopard, Hippo, Hyena, Topi and Reedbuck. After lunch at the Cottages, we drive to Kibale National Park for dinner and overnight stay at the Ndali Lodge.

Day 8
After breakfast, we venture into the Kibale Forest for a guided Chimpanzee tracking. An experienced guide from the Ugandan Wildlife Service provides detailed explanations not only on primates, but also on the forest's fauna and flora. This walk is informative, enjoyable and excellent for viewing bird life and primates in close quarters. We return to the lodge for lunch before setting off to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. In the late afternoon we check in at the Mweya Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9
Queen Elizabeth National Park, set against the backdrop of the Ruwenzori Mountains, is Uganda’s most popular tourist destination. The park’s diverse ecosystem which includes sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands; makes it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds. Today is dedicated to exploring this park by car and boat. On the game drives we meet Buffaloes, Elephants, and Plains Game and with some luck a pride of Lions while a boat ride on Kazinga Channel presents the best opportunity to see Hippos and Crocodiles in the water. Lunch, dinner, and overnight stay will once again be at the lodge.

Day 10
After breakfast we drive out of Queen Elizabeth National park heading southwards to the Volcanoes Mountains in Rwanda. The drive will take us via Kisoro town where we stop for a late lunch. The scenic area is also nicknamed the “Switzerland of Africa”. After going through Customs and Immigration formalities we proceed with a short drive to Ruhengeri, where we stop for coffee in one of the oldest restaurants in town. In the late afternoon we check in at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11
After an early breakfast at 6.00 am, we proceed to the park headquarter for a detailed briefing. We are divided into groups of eight and each group is allocated rangers who take us through the forest in search for a Gorilla family allocated to us. The trek may take anything between 2 to 4 hours until we spot the gorillas feasting on bamboo sprouts. We have 1hour to observe them in their habitat and take pictures. If everything goes well we will be back for a late lunch at our lodge. In the afternoon we take a 2 hour drive to Gisenye on the shores of Lake Kivu and the Congolese border for dinner and overnight stay at the Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 12
After breakfast, we check out and drive to Kigali city where depending on our onward departure schedule; we will be dropped off at the Kigali airport for departure.
