We leave Arusha, driving south to Lake Manyara. This National Park is at the shores of a beautiful lake tucked below the Great Rift Valley escarpment - the Old Hunter’s paradise and home to the legendary tree climbing lions. On the lakeshores we are sure to see herds of hippo, thousands of flamingoes and other water birds. After a lunch break at the hot springs and game drives en-route to the gate we climb the escarpment and drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight stay at the Kudu camp site.
After breakfast we leave our camp with lunchboxes and drive northwest through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands. At about lunchtime, we reach the Olduvai gorge which is also known as “the cradle of mankind”. A visit to the museum gives us an insight of Leakeys’ work, the archeologists who discovered the origin of mankind. After lunch we proceed to the Serengeti with game drives en-route. Dinner and overnight stay will be at one of the Seronera Camp sites.
Today we start with an early morning game drive in search of the hunters before the heat of the day sends them hiding in the bushes. After a late breakfast, we continue with a full day excursion in the “endless plains” - the Maasai meaning of the word Serengeti. If we are lucky, we may witness some hunting thrills. Serengeti is home to all the major species of wildlife with thousands of wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, impalas, gazelles, buffaloes and elephants. The kopjes, a volcanic rock formation spreading all over the plains are the hideouts for large lion prides. Cheetahs can easily be spotted and with some luck we will also spot leopards. In the late afternoon, we return again to our fly camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Today we will wind up our Serengeti adventures with a morning game drive and after lunch we drive eastwards to Ngorongoro, one of the latest Natural Wonders of the World. Today we will only go as far as the crater rim from where we will take in breathtaking views of the animal kingdom below. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the Simba camp site right on the crater rim.
After an early breakfast we descend to the crater floor for a game drive. Here we come across virtually all game one can expect to see in East Africa. Ngorongoro is definitely nothing short of one of the Natural Wonders of the World. With lunchboxes in our car, we will have plenty of time to watch the animals before climbing back up the steep crater walls in 4x4 vehicles for dinner and overnight stay at the Simba camp.
After breakfast at the crater rim while viewing the wildlife 600m below on the crater floor, we wind up our tour and drive to Arusha with lunch on the way.
