Today we are picked up from our hotel in Entebbe or Kampala and drive west to the famed “Mountains of the Moon”- the Ruwenzori mountains. We will have a brief stop in rural town of Mubende and arrive in Fort Portal just in time for lunch. The town, located at 1500m on the slopes of the mountain is also the capital of the Toro kingdom and hosts the king’s palace. After lunch and a stroll in town, we drive to Ihamba Safari Lodge on the shores of Lake George for dinner and overnight stay.
Today after breakfast, we drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, for game drives in the backdrop of the Ruwenzori Mountains. We stop for lunch at Mweya Safari Lodge and take a boat trip on Kazinga Channel in the afternoon. The channel connects Lake George to Lake Edward. We spot Hippos and crocodiles in the water as well as countless birds overhead while the shores are crowded with elephants, buffaloes and plains game. After our boat ride, we drive to Ishasha Jungle Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Today we will have an early breakfast before we venture into the Ishasha plains in search for the famed tree climbing lions. Besides lions, we spot large herds of Ugandan Cobs, Buffaloes and Topis. With some luck we can even find a leopard in swamps along the southern circuit. We return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we drive to Bwindi Forest for dinner and overnight stay at the Silverback lodge.
Today is the ultimate highlight of our safari. After breakfast, we have our briefing on tracking the great apes. In groups of 8 people, escorted by rangers, we trek through the rainforest and bamboo covered slopes in search of the mountain gorilla family. The trek is sometimes tough and long, but when you catch a glimpse of the magnificent silverback, the hardship encountered is quickly forgotten. Gorilla trekking is unpredictable. It's difficult to foresee how many hours you will hike. The gorilla excursion can take from 2 up to 8 hours. It is recommended that you are in good physical condition in order to take the hike. For conservation purposes, time spent with the gorillas is limited to one hour. Lunch dinner and Overnight stay will once again be at the Silverback Lodge.
After breakfast we will have a guided village walk for a closer interaction with the local community and learn about their culture as we walk through coffee, tea and banana plantations. Afterwards we depart to the 900m-deep Lake Bunyonyi which is the deepest Lake in Uganda. Nestled in the extreme south western part of Uganda, dotted with 29 islands and overlooked by rolling hills with crops on steep terraces, Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda's most picturesque locations. We arrive at the scenic Arcadia Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we take a boat ride to visit some of the islands and return for dinner & overnight stay at the Lodge.
Today our safari comes to end with a 450km drive back to Kampala via the busy towns of Kabale, Mbarara and Masaka. In Masaka, we stop for lunch before proceeding on the last stretch of the day’s long drive.
