Itinerary Details

Day 1
We will be picked up at 7.00am from our Hotel in Nairobi by our driver/guide. After a short briefing we drive north to Samburu National Reserve. We arrive at the camp/lodge just in time for lunch. After lunch and a short rest we proceed for an early afternoon game drive in the park, renowned for its variety of wildlife species which have adapted amazingly well to the harsh and hot climate of the area. The unique species include the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich. Dinner and the overnight stay will be at camp/lodge.

Day 2
Today after breakfast we spend the day taking morning and afternoon game drives. We only return to the camp/lodge for lunch. At this time the temperatures hit their peak and the animals look for shade under the trees. Samburu Game Reserve covers 104 square kilometers and the Ololokwe Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop towards the north. Samburu is also home to elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards. Dinner and overnight stay will be once again at the Lodge/camp.

Day 3
Today we head further to the extreme dry and arid north. The landscape slowly changes as we drive through heart of the land of the Samburu herdsmen. It is getting drier and drier. After passing through the Mathews range we arrive in South Horr where we have our packed lunch. After another 20km grass and vegetation disappears and we get surrounded by black volcanic rocks. The temperatures are now well above 30 degrees Celsius as we get the first glance of the southern shores of the Jade Sea, another name for Lake Turkana for its green waters. An hour’s drive along the lake shores takes us finally to Loyangalani where we enjoy our dinner and overnight at the camp/lodge.

Day 4
Today, we explore the southern part of the Lake Turkana shores. In the morning we visit an Elmolo Village. The Elmolo are the smallest tribe in Kenya, numbering not more than 500 people. They are mainly fishermen and hunt crocodiles. A myth in the community says that the crocodile recognizes the hunters from far and rather hide than attack. After lunch we take an excursion to look at the rock paintings in the area and watch a Turkana dance at sunset, before we return to our lodge/camp for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 5
Today we leave early and drive back to the south, climbing the Rift Valley Escarpment. We stop for lunch at the viewpoint as we overlook the vast Rift Valley below before we proceed to Maralal, the capital city of Samburu. Depending on our accommodation we go ahead further to Mugie Ranch for Dinner and overnight at the camp/lodge.

Day 6
Today after breakfast, we do a game drive in the vast Mugie Ranch or Maralal Game Sanctuary depending on our accommodation. We can opt in the afternoon for a short camel safari and visit a Samburu Village. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay will be again at the lodge/camp.

Day 7
After a tasty late breakfast we drive to Lake Bogoria and arrive just in time for lunch at the Lodge/camp.In the afternoon, we will do game drives and later return to the Lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8
Today we drive back to Nairobi with an option of having lunch on the way and depending on our flight schedule we will transfer to the airport in time for our international flight.
